PM Unveils Road 60B Plan Linking Kratie & Kampong Thom

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has unveiled an ambitious plan to construct National Road 60B, aimed at directly connecting Kratie and Kampong Thom provinces. The announcement was made during the inauguration of National Road 71C on April 12, 2025. (Source: Fresh News, April 12, 2025)

Boosting Connectivity Across Cambodia’s Heartland

Road 60B is set to become a vital corridor linking central and northeastern Cambodia to the capital, Phnom Penh. The initiative complements the completion of the Prek Prasorb Bridge, expected in 2026, and reflects a broader infrastructure development strategy.

“This road will greatly enhance convenience for our citizens, and there is no need to cross the Kizuna Bridge,” said Prime Minister Hun Manet.

By offering a more direct land route, the new road will reduce travel time and transportation costs, particularly for travelers and businesses operating between Kratie, Kampong Thom, and Phnom Penh.

Strengthening Agriculture and Industry

The Prime Minister emphasized the long-term economic impact of Road 60B. Beyond improved mobility, it is designed to transform the connected provinces into active economic corridors. Residents and businesses along the new route are expected to benefit from increased access to markets and reduced logistical challenges. “Residents along this road will play a vital role in contributing to our agricultural and industrial sectors,” the Prime Minister noted.

More Roads, Stronger Economy

The announcement is part of a broader vision to upgrade Cambodia’s transport infrastructure, including national, provincial, and sub-national roads. The Royal Government’s plan aims to ensure accessibility across all regions, with a clear focus on rural inclusion and equitable economic development.

Future studies are also underway for roads connecting Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri to Phnom Penh without the need to pass through Kratie or Tboung Khmum, further underlining the commitment to comprehensive connectivity.“ Even if we progress step by step, our goal is to build more roads that will serve the needs of the people,” the Prime Minister reaffirmed.
